In Kentucky, the GOP’s supermajority in the state house has allowed the legislature to create gerrymandered districts across the state. They have passed legislation that restricts the role of the governor. This has led to a legislature that isn’t inclined to work across the aisle for the benefit of all Kentuckians.

We need to end this supermajority in the Kentucky House and build a party that will compete across the Commonwealth. For the November midterms, the Caucus is focused not only on protecting five seats in purple districts, but is also working to flip seven additional seats. When they pick up 21 seats — within sight in the next three cycles — they will break the supermajority and block the most obstructive legislation being put forward.

The unfortunate reality is that it costs money to reach voters with a campaign’s message. Democrats are being outspent five to one by their Republican colleagues, making it difficult to compete. Gathering for Democracy has decided to support the Caucus as the midterm elections approach.
